This time of the year, I always want to get back in shape after splurging during the holidays. I am turning this into a healthy new year. There are so many cookbooks in my kitchen bookcase that I hardly ever use, so I pulled out a few recently. I made some little bookmarks and marked the recipes I thought looked good. And boy, did I find some. Sometimes we get into such a rut preparing the same meals from week to week. I prepared three new recipes from the cookbooks above and they were so good! My husband and I tend to eat too much meat so I picked a meatless main which we both enjoyed very much. And I will continue to incorporate more meatless main dishes into our diet.
My diet isn’t the only thing that suffered during the holidays, I just didn’t exercise much either. So today, I took a long walk and listened to an inspirational show. I have to say, it felt so good and cleared my mind of some of the clutter I’ve been experiencing. Doing yoga once a week also helps because I always come out of it feeling so grounded and balanced. I am hoping to get back to some running in the spring. That is the only thing that really seems to take off some pounds at my age. After fifty, it just keeps getting harder to do. But with starting a new career, I have to make time for exercise, not just for losing weight but to ease stress too. What are some of the things you are doing to start a healthier New Year?
